Job description
A renowned Global Manufacturing organisation requires a Head of Trade Compliance (Sanctions & Export Controls) / Legal Compliance Specialist.
The role is located in the Czech Republic and is a remote - home-based.
The Head of Trade Compliance - Sanctions will be responsible for managing the Sanctions and Export Controls framework and providing subject matter expertise to mitigate this key compliance risk for the group.
Your responsibilities
- Advising on the framework and appropriate risk profile for the Group’s Sanctions and Export Controls.
- Overseeing the delivery of export controls / sanctions, financial crime, and other legal compliance risks as required.
- Managing the due diligence analyst team and their operational delivery.
- Providing advice on applicable UK/EU/US Export Control and Sanctions regulations and dealing with the compliance matters falling within the Role’s remit.
- Maintaining and further developing risk-based and proportionate global, group-wide Sanctions & Export Control policies, and procedures – including defining roles and responsibilities for the mitigation of these risks.
- Support the businesses to embed and operationalise sanctions and export control procedures, including through training as needed.
- Conduct export controls and sanctions risk assessments and propose mitigating actions.
- Monitor changing sanctions and export controls regulations and ensure such changes are promptly communicated and reflected in compliance processes.
- Engage with government officials, regulators and third party advisers as necessary.
- Assist with subject matter investigations and remediation plans.
- Provide subject matter expertise in M&A and disposal opportunities.
Skills & experience
- Significant experience (8+ years) providing advice on export controls and sanctions in relevant industry or professional services environments.
- Extensive knowledge of UK, EU and US export controls and sanctions requirements, including experience dealing with controlled (dual use) products and technology, licensing, export and re-export control requirements (UK/EU/US).
- Working knowledge of product classification (UK/EU/US).
- A proficient trade compliance expert able to design, implement and improve export controls and sanctions in a compliance programme for a global business.
- Confident presenting at senior levels.
- Highly proficient English language skills with excellent communication skills and an open and approachable style.
- Ability to provide pragmatic and commercially focused advice and seek to solve problems whilst being prepared to take a stand if needed.
